SUBMARINE PROJECTS

Air Independent Propulsion System (REIS Class) Submarine Project

It is planned to build 6 submarines within the scope of the New Type Submarine project. In this context, preparations and infrastructure activities for the construction of submarines with an air-independent propulsion system were completed at the Gölcük Shipyard Command, and the construction activities of the first submarine, PIRIREIS, started on 28 September 2015. Construction activities for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd submarines continue. The REIS Class submarines, which are planned to be put into service between 2022 and 2027, will be the first submarines of the Turkish Navy with air-independent propulsion system.

The construction of submarines at Golcuk Shipyard will be an important step in the realization of the National Submarine Project.

Submarines, which will have the Air Independent Propulsion System developed with the Hydrogen Fuel Cell technology, will have the opportunity and capability to operate in an immersed state for weeks without going to the surface. REIS Class submarines with a displacement of 1850 tons will have the capability of firing guided missiles against sea and land targets with advanced heavy torpedoes.
The 25th Naval Forces Commander Admiral Bülent BOSTANOGLU made the first welding of PIRIREIS at the ceremony held on 28 September 2015.
