NATO ships, provided by Turkey, Greece and Italy concluded Focus Operation in Eastern Mediterranean Sea as part of Operation Sea Guardian. The Focus Operation was conducted by frigates TCG GAZİANTEP (Turkey), ITS AVIERE (Italy) and HS NAVARINON (Greece) under tactical command of Turkish Navy Captain Emre SEZENLER between 4-19 February.
The operation mainly focused on establishing a stable security zone as well as contributing to global security and peace in Eastern Mediterranean Sea. During the more than 600 hours of patrolling in the region, naval units closely monitored the safe passage of approximately 440 merchant ships and exhanged information on the daily activities occuring there. Turkish Navy’s Maritime Patrol Aircraft (a P-235) conducted an eight-hour flight for reconnaissance and surveillance. Turkish Navy’s fuel supply ship TCG AKAR contributed to replenishment at sea. Following the operation, participating ships visited Port of Souda, Crete to discuss and evaluate the operation. TCG GAZİANTEP returned to her main base on February 21st.
